Mr Rahul Desai – CEO of the International Institute of Gemology and Mr Avinash Ghosh – Sr. Faculty of Gemology went on a two-days training to Ratlam. During the visit they were privileged to meet all the three generation owners – Shri. Anokhilal Kataria, Shri. Ravi Kataria and Mr. Harsh Kataria. The training was for their well experience employees together with new joiners, total 50 sales people; just before a week of the opening of their state-of-the-art showroom at Mumbai – Ratlam highway. It’s more like a palace with lodging-boarding facilities for customers from different cities and nearby villages, guest rooms, conference room and many more facilities.

IIG was humbled to know about the willingness of the staff to learn about soft skills needed to succeed in the Gems and Jewellery Industry. The Corporate Training was a two-day event. On these two days, various aspects of gold, diamond and gemology were discussed. As Ratlam is known for its gold purity the staff members were aware of the gold standards and participated enthusiastically. We gave them the awareness on FTC – eco-friendly gold, gold reservoirs and gold bullions.

Since the main market in Ratlam is for gold jewellery, the knowledge of diamonds created a wave of awareness where the staff wanted to know about brilliant cut diamonds, different shapes and 4 C’s of diamond etc., to name a few questions. Gemology is a vast subject and Mr Avinash imparted knowledge on Navagrah stones and their importance of it in the Indian market. Many questions on CVD diamonds arose and Mr. Rahul passionately answered all of them to generate more opportunities about diamond jewellery sales. Overcoming the language barrier, IIG team was well–equipped to answer all the questions related to the Gems and Jewellery Industry.

Mr. Rahul Desai imparted knowledge and soft skill required in the market gave sales tips and ideas and shared the dos and don’ts of sales. We shared the 9 steps of sales like ethics, teamwork, professionalism and addressing the objection.

As the saying goes all work and no play makes jack a dull boy – Games were played to measure the aspects of teamwork and group work and to understand the team spirit. Flash card-themed essays in 1 minutes were conducted to understand how quickly the staff can grasp and make a point of them. The staff members enjoyed these games and exuberantly participated in them. The Kataria Jeweller’s gen next also enjoyed the games and bonded with everyone.

Kataria Jewellers staff are very loyal, trustworthy, hard-working and humble. A testimonial from the staff worker is that he has been working there from a very young age and they have taught him about the industry. The hospitality of Kataria Jewellers is excellent, a good mode of transport was available, authentic food and all our needs were very well attended too.

International Institute of Gemology appreciates this opportunity of Corporate Training at Ratlam for Kataria Jewellers. As our motto is to empower and educate we look forward to many more corporate pieces of training at Kataria Jewellers and for others who wish to up-skill and upgrade themselves for the betterment and advancement of the Gem and Jewellery Industry.
