The benefit of skill training in the Gems and Jewellery Industry

India is known as the 2nd largest Gems and Jewellery hub in the world with a global reach. India is
always known for its fine and detailed craftsmanship for many generations. It has a huge
consumption because of its cost-effectiveness of manpower. As labour is easily available, the Gems
and Jewellery Industry can cater to the export market at competitive rates in the global market. The
gem and Jewellery Industry employs millions of people and this enables the country’s export to be
around 7% of the total GDP share. A major source of income is generated due to foreign exchange.

The growth of the Gems and Jewellery Industry has been tremendous due to factors like fine
craftsmanship availability of cost-effective labour which were not easily available in other countries.

Changes are inevitable as the last decade, the other countries progressed in developing skilled
manpower and technology which was not available in the Gems and Jewellery Industry of India.

The competition on the global platform is challenging. Indian companies are competing with the
best companies in the world. They have skilled and highly trained manpower.

India is projected as the next superpower in the coming years. Competing with the world market is
challenging and questions like how we can establish ourselves in the world market with the best
technology and skilled manpower are imperative.

Over the decades, the increasing demand for skilled manpower led to the formation of the Gems
and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI). GJSCI is one of the biggest training institutes and its
primary motive and goal were to create an environment of organised and skill development set-up
in the Gems and Jewellery Industry which was not prevalent in the past. The main motive was to
compete with high–the quality standards of the world with a workforce of new artists with
optimized skills.

Establishing New Training Institutes.

As a skilled employee/ manpower can provide high-quality products with great precision, tapping
into this area, India needs to come up with many institutes with similar goals and motives. These
institutes will provide the learners with the latest machines, tools and equipment to create high-
quality products and pieces of art. India needs to tap into the resources and emerge as a leading
Gems and Jewellery Industry on the world platform.

Value of promotional Skills.

Coming of age, with the revolution of the technological era, it becomes important for the Gems and
Jewellery Industry to adopt the newer techniques available in the market to compete at a global
scale. With the newly launched digital India scheme, Gems and Jewellery Industry has acquired the
latest promotional medium like digital marketing, shopping, advertisement and online shopping.

Stalwarts and people with excellent promotional skills, networking skills and analytical skills are
required to establish new trends in the Gems and Jewellery Industry. Market awareness for
promotional content is required to create a huge impact in the Gems and Jewellery Industry at a
global level.

Certification of skilled manpower.

The major GDP of India is generated by the Gems and Jewellery Industry the mode of exports. Brand awareness has become a very important factor. It is vital for the manpower to acquire a certified skill set to compete in the global market. When we equip the manpower with authorized certificates, they are empowered and confident in achieving the desired output in the Gems and Jewellery Industry at a larger scale and hence are motivated to create high-quality products.

Creating and establishing new institutes in the Gems and Jewellery industry in India can empower
manpower and enable a methodical channel to promote the Industry. This contributes to healthy
competition on a global level and which impacts the industry to emerge as a world leader.
