Mandalay Seminar Boosts SRDC’s Global Endeavors

An enthusiastic crowd of over 600 students, jewellers and diamond enthusiasts gathered to attend a 3-day seminar organized by SRDC INDIA (Shreeji Rajendra Diamond Classes), in Mandalay – Myanmar (Burma). It took place between 20th August to 22nd August 2017.

The seminar brought to the table insights about diamonds – their 4Cs, their natural characteristics, differentiation between natural and man-made diamonds and more, leaving participants better informed at the conclusion of the three days. SRDC has been pioneering ways of enhancing awareness gems and jewellery to both aspirants and professionals.

SRDC, established in 1965 has been pioneering the work of spreading education within the field of gems and jewellery. The Institute earns its repute not only from its endeavors but also through its unique and in-depth formats to impart knowledge. In this vein, the seminar and its record participation of around 600 attendees from Mandalay, underscored its focused vision. It also saw the attendance of dignitaries including Mrs. Minn Naing Oo – CEO and Founder of United Pacific Co. Ltd. Kyaw Min Htoo – Sales & Marketing Director of Advanced Myanmar Star Co. Ltd. , Mr. Tyn Tun Aung – Managing Director of United Pacific Co. Ltd. also Mr. Aung Thet Tun & Mrs. Ma Thiri Maung Maung – Aung Thiri Diamond Company, CEO, and Founder.

The seminar brought to the table holistic insights about diamonds – their 4Cs, their natural characteristics, differentiation between natural and man-made diamonds and more, leaving participants better informed at the conclusion of the three days. The four-hour daily sessions were shared between presentations and open discussions. Talks were delivered by Mr. Rahul Desai – Director at SRDC.

Mr. Rahul Desai, a leading personality in the education sector for the industry, presented insights to diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry. Aung Thiri Diamond Director Aung Thet Tun & Ma Thiri Maung Maung elaborated aspects of ‘Intelligent Diamond Buying’ by focusing on 4C’s.

Topics included ‘Introduction to Diamonds, Formation, Physical & Optical Properties and Diamond Mining’, Clarity and its Defects feathers, Inclusions, and Blemishes, “Know your Diamonds”, dedicated to CUT and COLOR, Synthetics diamonds like CVD and HPHT. Mr. Rahul brought to light aspects about CARAT, sieving, and gauging, different diamond terminologies like STAR, MELEE, POINTERS etc. Calculating Gross & Net Gold weight for Diamond jewelry, weight Formula was also discussed.

As has always been, SRDC has accompanied its learning sessions with practical demonstrations. A practical demonstration in Turkey in 2008 had garnered a tremendous attendance of around 1000 jewellers  Continuing its approach of practical demonstrations, the seminar in Mandalay saw a demonstration of the small Taupe Machine and how to separate the Natural Diamond and Lab-Made diamonds, brought new insights to the participants.

The event concluded with a question and answer session to gauge the learnings and add to the insights. It received much positive feedback both from participants and the local media. A lot many participants expressed a desire to attend such seminars in the future. The success of its debut seminar in Mandalay has laid the foundation for SRDC to hold future events with practical sessions.
