India is known as the 2nd largest Gems and Jewellery hub in the world with a global reach. India is
always known for its fine and detailed craftsmanship for many generations. It has a huge
consumption because of its cost-effectiveness of manpower. As labour is easily available, the Gems
and Jewellery Industry can cater to the export market at competitive rates in the global market. The
gem and Jewellery Industry employs millions of people and this enables the country’s export to be

and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI). GJSCI is one of the biggest training institutes and its
primary motive and goal were to create an environment of organised and skill development set-up
in the Gems and Jewellery Industry which was not prevalent in the past. The main motive was to
compete with high–the quality standards of the world with a workforce of new artists with
optimized skills.

Establishing New Training Institutes.

As a skilled employee/ manpower can provide high-quality products with great precision, tapping
into this area, India needs to come up with many institutes with similar goals and motives. These
institutes will provide the learners with the latest machines, tools and equipment to create high-
quality products and pieces of art. India needs to tap into the resources and emerge as a leading
